Varanasi: A thief wanted in several cases was arrested after he suffered bullet injury in the leg during exchange of fire with Manduadih police late Monday night. He had targeted several houses and shops in different areas of the city.
On Tuesday morning, Varuna Zone DCP Pramod Kumar said a team, led by Manduadih police station officer was busy checking vehicles near Jalalipatti area on Tuesday early morning when two persons on a motorcycle tried to cross the area. When policemen signalled them to stop, they turned their motorbike around and tried to escape. Policemen chased them and sensing danger, the motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fire. In retaliatory firing, one criminal suffered a bullet injury in the leg, while the other managed to escape.
The injured criminal was identified as Sunny Dharkar, resident of Ramdatpur. He was on police radar in over 18 cases of theft and robbery lodged with Lalpur, Shivpur, Cantt, Sigra and Sarnath police stations.
