KBC16: Big B recalls how Vidhu Vinod Chopra once scolded him

In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, host Amitabh Bachchan narrates how producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra once scolded him for being late on sets. He shared, “If you are talking about being punctual, he scolds. Once I was working with him and we finished late at night. Before leaving he said we have to come 6am on set. I was like it’s crazy, we finished at 3am, how can we come at 6am. I came 10mins late and he scolded me in front of the entire unit. He said, ‘you are late by 10 mins’.”

Vikrant then shared, “When we were making music for 12th Fail, only 4 instruments are used in the background. For 4-5 months, he was after Shantanu Moitra, who did the music, saying, the sitar is not sounding right. From Bengal and every other places where sitar was available, were brought. Even then it wasn’t sounding right. He then told Shantanu to source a Sitar, which RD Burman used to play. Then he sourced sitar from the 1960s. And finally it was locked, because the reverberations, matched with the wood that was used to make the sitar back then. That’s how dedicated he is.”

The personalities were playing for an institution, which is run by a man for the past 40 years. He takes care of orphans, their studies, till their marriage, they give his name to those children. There are around 300 kids.


A movie related question comes and Big B asks if Manoj gets time to watch movie. He teasingly scolds him saying, “IG hai aap, desh ki raksha kar rahe hai aur picture dekhne chale gaye?” He says, “He gets time to watch films but doesn’t know the singers.


Big B asks his wife Shraddha, if he takes her out for films. She replies saying, “Time chura lete hai.”

Vikrant reveals that Manoj and Shraddha are foodies. He says, “I have had the best chat at their place.” Manoj then goes on to say, “Shraddha and I were staying in Delhi back then. Financially we were not strong. We would have sabzi for Rs 7 and Chapatis for Rs 1. Within Rs 10, we would have our lunch. There was Rs 90 thali and we would keep wondering when to have that. I would set benchmark that after clearing one exam, we would have it. I was focused on preparations and would only get time to eat once in a day. Sometimes we would wait for 6 months to have that thali.” Vikrant says he would keep setting a new benchmark. Manoj also shares that cooking is his stress buster.”

He also recites a mom dedicated to his mother, for the struggles she had faced through. It makes everyone emotional.

They clear the Super Sawaal.

Big B asks him about how the environment was when he became an officer. Manoj replied saying, “It seemed like there is some festival.”

Vikrant reveals, “Nobody does this, but when 12th Fail became a success, did more than what it was supposed to do, all the unit members were given bonus equivalent of their remuneration.”

They win Rs 30,000 in the Super Sandook round.

Manoj also reveals his love story with Shraddha and how she stood beside him throughout.
