Rebecca Gayheart recently shared some heartfelt updates about her relationship with her husband, actor Eric Dane, just before the Grey’s Anatomy star revealed his diagnosis of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Gayheart spoke during an event in Los Angeles, saying that even though their marriage had faced tough times, she no longer sees it as a failure.

Speaking to E! News at the premiere of The Carters: Hurts to Love You, Gayheart expressed that she and Dane are now on very good terms. She described their current bond as close, saying they are “best of friends” and continue to be “great co-parents” to their two daughters — Billie, who is 15, and Georgia, who is 13.

Gayheart and Dane were married in 2004, and after 14 years together, she filed for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. However, just last month, she made the decision to withdraw the divorce petition, suggesting a significant change in their relationship.

She explained that they had found a way to keep their family united and that this has had a positive impact not only on their children but also on both of them as individuals. According to her, the way they’ve handled the challenges of their relationship has brought about personal growth and stability.

Gayheart also reflected on the idea of what it means for a relationship to end. She shared her belief that not all relationships that go through hard times should be seen as failures. Instead, she called their marriage a "huge success," emphasizing the 15 years they spent together and the two children they raised as their biggest achievements. She said that even if things change, the memories and love shared over the years still matter.

A day after Gayheart’s interview, Eric Dane publicly confirmed that he had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — a serious and progressive condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. In a statement to People, Dane said he was thankful to have his family by his side as they face this new chapter in life together.

As Dane focuses on his health, both he and Gayheart appear to be leaning on one another, showing the strength of their connection even after years of ups and downs. Fans and well-wishers have expressed their support for the couple, praising their honesty and unity in such a difficult time.
