Google Maps has long been a useful companion for directions, satellite views, and virtual street tours. But beyond its utility, it has also become an unexpected source of odd scenarios on the internet. Users browsing the platform often come across moments that are equally hilarious, bizarre, and also creepy, which are shown through photos of life frozen in time by the eye of Google camera.

Among the unusual sightings, the most talked-about is a peculiar scene from Musashino, Tokyo, Japan. At first glance, the image looks like a typical roadside scene. But when one looks closer, one will find eight individuals lined up in two rows, and surprisingly, all of them are wearing giant pigeon masks. This fueled wild speculation online and drew attention from curious internet users.

Where were these people seen?

The strange moment was captured at the coordinates 35.7040744, 139.5577317, and first went viral from Google Street View. According to Virtual Globetrotting, the mystery isn’t as eerie as it seems. The “pigeon people” were actually writers from a Japanese blog who caught wind that Google’s Street View team would be photographing their area. Inspired by the opportunity, they decided to stage this publicity stunt.

Dressed in coordinated outfits and wearing oversized pigeon masks, the group patiently waited not for a van, but for a Google camera strapped to a man’s back to stroll past. What followed was a perfectly strange moment, captured forever on Google Maps, and quickly became a viral sensation.

This scene seemed to be truly out of a fiction film, or marketing strategy for an advertisement of a brand or maybe something more sinister and users began speculating on the internet, As one Reddit user dramatically put it, “My worst nightmares have now come true,” before adding they planned to “spend the day hiding in a corner.” Another called it “Creepy as hell!”

What are other such similar incidents?

Just like the mysterious Pigeon People in Tokyo, another oddball moment popped up on Google Maps in the forests of Norway. A man dressed head to toe in a ghillie suit , the kind snipers wear to blend into nature, was spotted creeping behind trees, almost like he was stalking the Street View camera. It looked spooky at first glance, but was also hilarious. No one really knows what he was doing, but much like our feathered friends in Tokyo, it seems like someone just wanted to have a little fun with Google’s wandering lens.
