Wayne Gretzky, the NHL legend, finally made an appearance last night at the match between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks after all the trolling he received in February. The NHL legend was present to see Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin match his record of 894 goals. While Alex Ovechkin was able to score his 894th goal last night, is the fans’ reaction to Wayne Gretzky that has raised eyebrows.

Recently, the NHL made a post on X comparing Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin. The post reads as, “Wayne Gretzky - 894 goals in 1487 games. Alex Ovechkin - 894 goals in 1486 games #Gr8Chase” but it didnt go down well with many fans.
A fan commented, “Cool but he'll never be The Great One”, while another fan wrote, “Yeah but Wayne Gretzky scored goal number 894 in game number 1477, ten games before his last game.”
A third fan posted, “Still has 1 more to get. I am impressed he has lasted this long, still be playing as good as he has. Ovie is impressive, but there is only one Great One, Wayne Gretzky, but in one goal Ovechkin will be the #1 goal scorer of all time, No celebration just yet. But he should get it.”

As per Monumental Sports Network, Alex Ovechkin spoke about Wayne Gretzky’s presence at the match and said, “Oh yeah, everyone’s buzzing right now. Wayne is here, so yeah, it’s a special moment.”
