Hrishikesh Kanitkar to be India A head coach for England tour

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) has appointed former India allrounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the head coach of the India A team for their upcoming England tour , which is scheduled to start from May 30. Rajib Dutta will be the bowling coach of the side, while Joydeep Bhattacharya will be the fielding coach.

The Abhimanyu Easwaran-captained India A are scheduled to play three matches on their upcoming England tour - two against the England Lions (May 30-June 2 in Canterbury and June 6-9 in Northampton) and one against the senior India squad (June 13-16) after that.

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir will arrive in England with the first bunch of players for the Test series against England , and will watch the second India A match. The 'shadow tour' holds significant importance as part of the preparations for the Indian senior team's five-match Test series against England, which will start on June 20 at Leeds.


Who's that IPL player?

The vastly-experienced Kanitkar, who played for India in two Tests and 34 ODIs, scored 10,400 runs in 146 first-class matches@52.26. The former Maharashtra player has coached the Indian women's team (to a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2022), India A and the India Under-19 team (to the Under-19 World Cup win in 2022) in the past.

Note: Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will join the squad ahead of the second match.
