NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu honoured veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award on Tuesday, and recognised other winners of 70th National Film Awards , including acclaimed music composer AR Rahman and actors Rishab Shetty, Nithya Menen, and Manasi Parekh at a ceremony .
National Film Awards were announced in Aug for the best works of 2022.
The President emphasised the significance of Indian cinema, describing it as the world's largest film industry that produces movies in various languages and regions. She noted its remarkable diversity within the arts.
Murmu pointed out that out of the 85 recipients, only 15 were women. "... I believe more efforts can be made towards women-led development in film industry. I believe films and social media are a great tool to bring a change in society," she said.
