A 34-year-old physician and CEO of a prominent hospital group in Hyderabad, has been arrested along with a Mumbai-based courier for allegedly buying 53 grams of cocaine. The doctor, a divorced mother of two, has admitted cocaine addiction for the past three to four years, Cyberabad police said after arresting her on Thursday along with alleged courier Balakrishna Rampyar Ram, 38. The two were remanded in judicial custody on Friday but the kingpin of the interstate drug network is absconding.
Cops said they caught the doctor red-handed receiving the contraband from Balakrishnain Hyderabad's Raidurgam area. The doctor admitted to continuing her cocaine use after returning to India, initially sourcing it through a local DJ, who was a friend's boyfriend, before establishing contact with one Vansh Thakkar, police said.
A hunt is on for alleged kingpin Thakkar. Police have seized the doctor's iPhone, and Balakrishna's mobile. The two have been booked under NDPS Act.
