NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Cai Qi , the secretary of the secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), on Sunday and discussed India-China cooperation , focusing on deepening bilateral political engagement.
Earlier, PM Modi held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit (SCO) in Tianjin.
PM Modi, in his meeting with Jinping, asserted that New Delhi is committed to taking the India-China ties forward, based on mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.
He also thanked the Chinese president for the warm welcome and congratulated China for successfully chairing the SCO.
China's President Xi Jinping also highlighted the importance of India-China friendship and said that it's the "right choice" for both nations to be friends. Jinping also mentioned that the partnership between the "dragon and elephant" enables each other's success.
Following the meeting between the two global leaders, Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, wrote on X, "Honoured to attend the bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the SCO summit."
