NEW DELHI: Multiple flights of Indian carriers continue to get threat messages on Sunday too, with no end in sight to this menace that is disrupting schedules, bleeding airlines and inconveniencing passengers in peak festive travel season . Till Sunday afternoon, six flights of IndiGo and Vistara each had got such threats. Other airlines also got similar hoax messages.
Vistara’s Delhi-Frankfurt flight returned to Delhi after getting a threat. “We confirm receiving security threats, on social media, for six Vistara flights operating on Oct 20. These include: Delhi to Frankfurt; Singapore to Mumbai; Bali to Delhi; Singapore to Delhi and Mumbai and Mumbai-Singapore). In line with protocols, all relevant authorities were immediately notified, and security procedures, as directed by them, are being carried out. Safety and security of our customers, crew, and aircraft remain our top priority,” said a Vistara spokesperson.
IndiGo said it got threats for six flights (till Sunday afternoon). These include Kozhikode to Dammam where the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay on arrival and all passengers were safely disembarked. The threat for this warned that there were two men on board with bombs. This proved to be a hoax.
The other five IndiGo five flights impacted were: Delhi-Istanbul, Goa-Ahmedabad; Pune-Jodhpur; Jeddah-Mumbai and Mumbai-Istanbul. “Customers were safely disembarked. At IndiGo, the safety and security of our customers and crew remains paramount in all facets of our operations. We worked closely with the relevant authorities, and standard operating procedures were followed. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused our customers and appreciate their understanding,” IndiGo said for these flights. Akasa said “some” of its flights have got threats.
Air India said of its Oct 20 flights “were subject to security threats received on social media.” “Following the laid down protocols, relevant authorities were immediately alerted, and all security procedures strictly adhered to, as per guidance from the regulatory authorities and security agencies. The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remain our top priority,” AI said in a statement.
Airlines did not say if they have started filing police complaints for these threat messages.
