A 39-year-old man has been arrested after he crashed his car into the Russian consulate in Australia on Monday. The incident that was captured on camera showed a white car with two smashed windows parked next to a Russian flag on the lawn of the consulate.
According to Sky News Australia, the incident took place at around 8 am after New South Wales Police received a call regarding an "unauthorised vehicle" parked in the driveway.
When officials attempted to speak to the driver, he then allegedly "drove his vehicle into the gates of the property", police said in a statement.
The 39-year-old man was arrested and is assisting police with their investigations.
"On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attempted to speak to the driver; however, he allegedly drove his vehicle into the gates of the property," a statement read.
"A 39-year-old man was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station , where he is assisting police with inquiries," it added.
Police said that a 24-year-old cop got injuries in his hand during the incident and is being treated by paramedics on scene.
