At least one child died and 25 injured, mostly cops after an explosion occurred at a police station in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday. The initial report suggests that the blast occurred "due to a short circuit."

Swabi district emergency officer Awais Babar reported that Rescue 1122 transported 15 injured individuals to the district headquarters hospital, noting a total of 25 casualties, Dawn reported.

The rescue operations are ongoing.

"Explosives confiscated during multiple operations accidentally detonated due to malfunction, despite plans for controlled disposal at some safe location outside," an official said as quoted by PTI.

KPK chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur has offered condolences for the death of a child in the explosion and announced financial compensation for the child's family. He also directed divisional and district administrations to initiate rescue operations to ensure timely medical assistance for the injured.
