Elon Musk ’s transgender daughter Vivian Wilson has said she is struggling financially despite being the child of the world’s richest man.
In an interview with The Cut published Tuesday, the 21-year-old aspiring model said she shares a home with three roommates in Los Angeles because it is cheaper.
“People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t,” Wilson said, adding that she does not have “hundreds of thousands of dollars” at her disposal.
“I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter, and some expendable income, which is much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”
Wilson cut ties with Musk in 2022 when she legally changed her gender and name. She has since criticised him on social media, while Musk has claimed she was influenced by what he calls the “woke mind virus.”
The eldest of Musk’s 14 children, Wilson reflected on her wealthy upbringing but said she no longer wants to be “superrich.” She has attended college in Canada and Japan, dropped out, and is now pursuing modelling, recently appearing on the cover of Teen Vogue.
On her growing fame, Wilson said she is “not very good at being famous.” Already represented by an agent and recently on the cover of Teen Vogue, she said she once valued being treated like a regular person. “Right before I became famous, no one knew who I was. It was amazing. I kind of miss that. But I also like being famous,” she added, noting that her public profile also brings income.
