Uppinangady: An attempted ATM theft was reported at a private ATM center located in Kalleri village of Karaya near Uppinangady. Miscreants allegedly tried to break into the ATM and caused damage to the property. A formal complaint has been registered with the Uppinangady police.

The ATM in question belongs to India1, a private company, and is situated within the premises of the Tanneerupanta Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society building. According to reports, the intruders tried to tamper with the CCTV camera and attempted to break open the ATM machine.

The attempted theft came to light after the India1 call center sent an alert regarding suspicious activity at the Kalleri ATM. Upon reaching the site for inspection, officials discovered clear signs of forced entry and damage.

Based on a complaint filed by Prashanth D’Costa, the Uppinangady police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

Repeated Attempts Raise Security Concerns
The private ATM is equipped with modern security systems, including surveillance that monitors all internal activity. In this incident, although the suspects attempted to open the ATM, the cash compartment remained untouched due to an OTP-based locking mechanism, preventing access.

Officials revealed that a similar attempted theft occurred recently at an ATM in Tekkar as well. The recurring nature of such attempts has prompted authorities to treat the case with urgency and intensify the investigation to trace the culprits.
