6 Dead, Including Child, in Jeep Accident on Bhopal-Jabalpur Highway in Madhya Pradesh

Raisen, April 21 A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district, claiming six lives, including two women and a child, after a speeding jeep carrying a wedding party collided with a culvert and plunged 10 feet deep into a gorge. The incident took place near Bamhori Dhaba under the Sultanpur police station on the Bhopal-Jabalpur highway.

Tragic End to a Wedding Celebration

The jeep, carrying nine people, was returning to Indore from a wedding in Supaul, Bihar. According to preliminary reports, the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to hit the culvert and fall into the ditch around 6:30–7:00 AM.

Among the deceased were:

  • Mohanlal Kuril (68), Udaipur, Rajasthan

  • Chanda Devi (60), Udaipur, Rajasthan

  • Narendra Chopra (30), Indore

  • Sarita (25), Indore

  • Chinu (2), daughter of Ravi, Indore

  • Sunil (driver)

Groom and Bride Among the Injured

Three passengers survived with critical injuries:

  • Deepak Chopra (groom), Ujjain

  • Sangeeta (bride), Indore

  • Ravi Kholwal (groom’s brother-in-law), Indore

All injured were initially taken to Sultanpur Hospital and later shifted to Raisen District Hospital for further treatment.

Officials Respond to the Scene

Raisen Collector Arun Kumar Vishwakarma and SP Pankaj Kumar Pandey visited the accident site and ensured quick medical assistance to the injured. SDOP Aditi Saxena confirmed that the jeep was en route from Jabalpur to Indore when the accident occurred.

Authorities have initiated an investigation and assured that government assistance will be extended to the affected families.
