Rajasthan Sizzles Under Heatwave: Barmer and Jaisalmer Cross 45°C as Mercury Soars Across State

Jaipur, India — The summer sun has begun to scorch Rajasthan in full force, with Barmer and Jaisalmer recording temperatures above 45°C on Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, 17 cities reported temperatures exceeding 40°C, signaling the onset of an intense heatwave in the region.

Barmer led the heat charts with a blistering 45.5°C, making it the hottest day in the state. Jaisalmer followed closely at 45°C, while Bikaner recorded the warmest night at 28.6°C, indicating heatwave and warm night conditions across western Rajasthan.

Western Disturbance Fades, Heatwave Conditions Intensify

With the recent western disturbance weakening, Rajasthan is witnessing rapidly rising temperatures. Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Center, said a weaker western disturbance is expected to affect eastern Rajasthan on April 17–18, possibly bringing light rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

However, the forecast suggests that the weather will remain mostly dry for the next four days, with temperatures rising 3–4°C further. On April 16–17, parts of western Rajasthan could experience extreme heat, with maximum temperatures reaching 45–46°C and intense heatwave conditions expected in some areas.

Eastern Rajasthan regions including Shekhawati, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions are also likely to witness temperatures between 42–44°C from April 16–18, with possible heatwave alerts issued for select pockets.

Temperature Trends Across the State

Tuesday saw dry weather across the state, with heatwave conditions reported in Jodhpur division and hot night conditions in Bikaner division. Humidity levels across most regions ranged between 13% and 44%.

In Jaipur, the daytime temperature showed a slight rise, while the night temperature saw a marginal dip. The city recorded a maximum of 38.4°C and a minimum of 25.4°C, accompanied by clear skies and moderate winds.
