The CIRP data reveals that 74% of iPhones sold in Q1 2025 were from the iPhone 16 family — a notable jump from the 68% share recorded by the iPhone 15 lineup during the same period last year. This early momentum underscores strong consumer interest in Apple’s latest offerings, especially its more affordable models.

While the flagship iPhone 16 model itself performed well, the report highlights that the iPhone 16e, the entry-level device in the new series, is the standout performer, securing a 7% share of all Apple iPhone sales in the quarter.

iPhone 16e: Affordable Powerhouse Wins Consumers

Priced at $600, the iPhone 16e is being lauded for its balance of performance and affordability. It includes:

• 6.1-inch OLED display

• A18 chipset

• Apple Intelligence features

• Single rear camera

Despite missing premium features like Dynamic Island, MagSafe, and a dual-camera system, the 16e’s combination of modern internals and lower price point has made it an attractive option for cost-conscious buyers and first-time iPhone users.

Entry-Level Model Outpaces iPhone SE (2022)

The CIRP report points out that the iPhone 16e has outperformed the 2022 iPhone SE at launch, a device that was similarly positioned in Apple’s lineup. The 16e’s share and appeal indicate a shift in market preferences toward larger screens and enhanced performance, even in budget-friendly segments.

Flagship Models Show Mixed Results

Interestingly, while the base iPhone 16 has outpaced the iPhone 15, other flagship-tier models like the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max haven’t matched the success of their 2024 counterparts in Q1. CIRP analysts attribute this to saturation in the premium segment and increased interest in value-based options.
