Weather Relief Across North India: Rain Brings Respite from Heatwave in Delhi, UP, and Bihar

New Delhi, April 11, 2025 — After days of searing heat and rising temperatures, North India is finally getting relief, thanks to a shift in weather patterns. A Western Disturbance has brought rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to several regions, significantly cooling down conditions from Delhi-NCR to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Rain Brings Down Temperatures Across States

Starting Wednesday evening, widespread rainfall was reported across most districts of Bihar, accompanied by strong winds. Cities like Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh also witnessed light showers, which brought a notable dip in day and night temperatures.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), these weather changes are expected to keep the heat in check until at least April 15. After that, temperatures may begin rising again, but the temporary relief offers welcome respite from the oppressive conditions that marked the start of April.

Delhi-NCR Sees Break from Heatwave

In Delhi-NCR, where temperatures had touched 42°C earlier this week, mercury levels have now dropped to around 28–39°C. Light rain and cloudy skies are helping to maintain relatively pleasant conditions. The IMD predicts further relief over the next couple of days with intermittent drizzle and cool winds.

Western Uttar Pradesh, including cities like Ghaziabad, Noida, and Meerut, are also expected to remain under the influence of the western disturbance through the weekend.

What the Forecast Says for Other Regions

• Western Himalayan States like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive moderate rainfall until the end of the week.

• Eastern India including West Bengal and Odisha can expect thunderstorms with light rain.

• Northeast India is forecast to see significant rainfall, providing relief from regional heat pockets.

• Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will experience slight relief after April 10.

• Rajasthan may witness dust storms over the weekend, especially in the western desert regions.

Wind speeds are expected to pick up to 40–50 km/h in parts of the north, helping further lower daytime heat and improve air circulation.
